Pickel said he believes his museum, no matter what it is named, will not take away from Fall River or Borden’s legacy. The visitors streaming through his door, he said, prove the demand.

Tens of thousands of people come to Salem each year “looking for the dark side of history,” Pickel said. “We’ve done very well.”

“We expect to see more of them because many more investigative units have been established nationwide to police the Internet,” he said.

The ICAC task force was created to help state and local law enforcement agencies with the investigation of offenders who use the Internet to sexually exploit children.

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. There are 59 regional task force agencies. During fiscal year 2006, ICAC investigations led to more than 2,040 arrests nationally, according to the justice department.
