“I initially expected my advisers to know what everything would be,” said Noah Gillespie, a senior dual majoring in law and social thought and economics. “I mean, they are the people for their programs, they [should] know how [auditing should] work [in their program].”
Gillespie said he had to go to John Klear, academic adviser for graduation evaluation in the College of Arts and Sciences office, for answers.
“I can imagine that a lot of [students] are running around a lot of different places trying to find the person who actually has the final answer,” Gillespie said.
David Wilson, associate professor and faculty adviser in political science, has come across students experiencing problems receiving a complete audit.
“This has really touched a nerve, and I think it has touched the nerve of a substantial number of students,” Wilson said.

Then Republicans in Congress pushed successfully for a constitutional amendment limiting Presidents to only two terms in office. That amendment, enacted in 1951, explicitly exempted President Harry Truman — because it was considered wrong to change the rules to affect a sitting official.

Some people who like Mike and don’t think much of the current field of replacements insist that the quality of the leader is more important than these principles. And given the Wall Street meltdown this week, his supporters are now arguing that his business skills justify continuation irrespective of City law. But that “indispensable man” argument holds no water. As Mike himself has repeatedly and self-effacingly noted, “I’ve always said that a new guy can do better.”

Earlier this year, his spokeswoman said that “he’s absolutely ruled out a third term.” Speaker Christine Quinn, his potential partner in any back-room deal, added, “I will not support the repeal or change of term limits through any mechanism, and I oppose aggressively any attempt to make any changes in the term limits law.” What’s changed?

Bloomberg has come to his fork in the road: One route ends with his reputation and legacy intact as an accomplished, nonpartisan mayor.

One of their main claims is that the laws are the constitutional reform in disguise. On 30 August there was a 4,000-strong protest against the laws in Caracas. Oscar Perez, Carlos Melo, Antonio Ledezma and Pompeyo Marquez, who were participants in the petroleum strike of 2002, gave short speeches. Some university students are also organizing on campus meetings to ‘reveal’ the laws. “Before the start of classes we are preparing…meetings and informing ourselves about the significance of the 26 laws and how they affect us, to be able to inform the people,” David Smolansky, counselor at the Catholic University Andres Bello, said. He argued the laws give greater control to the president and “the Law of Food Sovereignty, where the government practically tells Venezuelans what he’s going to eat, what he’s going to produce, how it’s going to be produced and sold…” “We have to tell the country how serious these laws are,” he said.
