The Waterville Police department is often called for information about child-custody issues, landlord and tenant disputes, or division of personal property between two parties, and all of these examples fall into the category of civil complaints — not criminal complaints, for which the police are responsible.
While law enforcement officers and dispatchers will make every effort to direct these civil complaints to the proper authorities, we have little involvement in civil cases and most likely can only keep the peace while the proper channels are followed via the court system.
