The term law always gives you sense of security and its true to some extent. In our society crime is one of the serious issues that always need to be monitored although police and other high authorities provide protection to their public. Sometimes some crime acts take place, which harm physically, damage property, death, sexual immorality, disturbance for law and order conditions. In such situations criminal law provide protection to the people from harmful acts of other person in the form of punishment.

Basically criminal law defines law and the punishment related to various crimes. In criminal law there are certain procedures take place which are taken legally in which investigation, apprehend, charge, prosecute and punishment given according to the crime. Criminal law is also known as panel law and the government regulates it.

The state legislatures have power to pass the law and to give punishments to act that is considered as crime. On the other hand, they also classify which act is considered as crime act and it should be in the interest of welfare of state and from security point of view.

Crime is divided into many types but you can find two types of crime prominent such as felonies and misdemeanors. Felonies are the serious types of crimes such as murder or rape. A person who is involved in such act is punished by death penalty, imprisonment in state jail for more than a year and pay fine. On the other hand, misdemeanor is opposite to the felonies due to this punishment of imprisonment in local jail for less than a year or need to pay fine. Person who convicts any crime has a right to appeal in the court for reducing their punishment.

The crime law basically depends upon the evidences and this is how the outcome of any crime case is possible otherwise no arrest will take place. When someone is arrested due to the serious charges he or she needs to face grand jury and if the evidence is sufficient it will justify the trial. On the other hand, if the evidence is not sufficient the accused will be discharged.

Sometimes a person commits a crime due to some reason and he didn't do it by intention. There are certain situations in criminal law when person is not considered criminal such as children between ages of seven to fourteen are not considered that they can commit a crime. In the same manner a person who is not mentally fit is also not considered as a criminal due to his mental health. There are certain mental tests taken to check the state of mind of criminal defendant and then the decision is taken related to that person. Last but not the least, there are some acts, which might be sometimes considered as crime or sometime considered as self-defense. When somebody tries to harm physical to someone and in defense whatever steps he takes to stop it is considered, as self-defense except some harmful weapon is not used during his defense.
